Scotland sealed the Kirin Cup after a hard fought goalless draw against Japan in Saitama tonight. With Scotland having hammered Bulgaria 5-1 two nights previously, Japan needed to score 3 goals to win the cup, following their 2-1 reverse on Tuesday evening. Japan had much of the possession but they could not make their superiority count as Scotlands defence held firm.

Scotland recorded their biggest away victory since 1982 tonight, in the Kobe Wing Stadium, beating Bulgaria 5-1 in the Scots' first game of the Kirin Cup. Bulgaria had beaten the hosts, Japan, 2-1 just two days earlier but had little answer to the free flowing football of Scotland. Kris Boyd scored on his debut, to open the scoring only for Yordan Toderov to equalise minutes later. However, Boyd soon restored the lead, bundling home after the Bulgarian keeper had made a good double save. McFadden scored the 3rd goal just after the restart, after good work down the right by Gary Teale. Chris Burke became the second Scotland player to score on his debut tonight, lobbing beautifully over the keeper and also completed the rout just before the end with a tap in, to score his second and Scotlands fifth.
